This is an outstanding career opportunity to lead the Butte County Department of Development Services (DDS). Reporting to the County Administrator and Board of Supervisors, this position oversees a dynamic organization comprised of four divisions including Administration, Building, Code Enforcement, and Planning Services at its Oroville office. The Director has overall responsibility for the management of a department with 31 employees and a $6.7 million budget. Exciting opportunities include:
- Finding creative solutions for replanning and rebuilding after the Camp Fire, California’s most destructive wildfire, destroyed 14,000 homes (3,500 in the County) creating an extreme housing shortage.
- Planning for development in the face of new State regulations including the development of an Environmental Justice Element and planning for housing production.
- Planning for future disasters including an update to the County’s Safety Element.
- Continuously improving department technology for streamlined Building Permits, Planning Projects and Code Enforcement processing and inspections in coordination with other County departments and partner agencies.
