About the Planning and Community Development Director position
The Planning and Community Development Director oversees short and long range planning for the City, the storm water program, and code enforcement. Currently, the Planning and Community Development Department is responsible for a variety of services, such as planning for sea level rise resiliency; maintaining and updating the City's Community Plan and zoning standards; and managing key programs and projects, such as accommodating housing (including affordable housing), Specific Plans, and development applications. As a Department Director, the Planning and Community Development Director oversees the department’s budget, manages department staff, and provides appropriate suggestions to the City Manager, City Council, Planning Commission and Design Review Board on planning related items.
Experience: 8 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning and development, including 5 years of supervisory management experience.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in planning or a related field is required. Master's Degree is highly desirable.
