Finance Director

City of Wilmington, NC

The City of Wilmington is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Director to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our local government and contributing to the growth and development of our city.

The Finance Director will oversee the financial management program of the City, including fleet management, and housing and loans management. The Finance Director will work closely with department heads and elected officials to develop and implement financial strategies that support the city’s goals and objectives. This is accomplished by providing consultation and technical assistance to staff, elected officials, outside agencies, and community groups; reviewing, and approving all agreements and related council agenda items with a financial impact on the City; managing and leading staff; and ensuring transactions comply with all local, state, and federal regulations. Other duties include managing the City’s long-range debt strategy to ensure financial stability, overseeing development of fees and rates, assisting with long term planning efforts and related special projects.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $115,050 - $195,598 annually and the starting salary is dependent on the selected candidates' qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package includes participation in the Local Government Employees Retirement System and an automatic 4.5% contribution to a deferred compensation plan.

Minimum Qualifications
- Work requires a professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a master’s degree-level of study or appropriate certification, such as a Certified Public Accountant.
- Minimum eight years of progressively responsible financial administrative and management experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or North Carolina Certified Public Finance Officer
- Bondable
- Valid Class C Driver's License
