The General Services Administration (GSA) department oversees facilities and fleet management, criminal justice, facility programming, safety and security, and general government functions. The department is organized into five major service delivery divisions: Administration and Support Services, Facility and Field Services, Fleet Operations, Physical Plant, and Safety and Security. The Director provides leadership, direction and strategy while overseeing all resources, staff and programs in these divisions. They manage the county’s complex and diverse building portfolio and comprehensive fleet and administer annual multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets. The incoming director will develop high-quality business strategies and plans that are in alignment with the Board of Commissioners’ goals and objectives. In addition, they will serve as the primary liaison between Wake County and the North Carolina 10th Judicial District’s Elected Officials (Resident Superior Court Judge, Chief District Court Judge, District Attorney, and Clerk of Court), as well as provide support for criminal justice planning and jail diversion programs.

Wake County is seeking an individual that will be strategic and innovative with strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should have a collaborative mentality and work towards building and maintaining a successful team by setting expectations and providing the tools needed to exceed those expectations. They should be politically savvy, responsive and have a strong commitment to follow through. The director should value and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion as it relates to the department and those they serve.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical), construction management, or related field and a master’s Degree is preferred. Preferred qualifications include being licensed as a NCPE - North Carolina Professional Engineer. Must have eight (8) years of experience in facilities, construction, fleet, portfolio, infrastructure, or budget/CIP management, including at least four (4) years of supervisory experience. Ideally, work experience would be in state/local government and/or university/college system.

Wake County offers a salary range of $166,342 – $249,515, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
