The Position
Buncombe County is seeking a proven, dynamic and innovative leader with keen analytical skills and audit system experience to serve as the County’s next Internal Audit Director. The Internal Audit Director will be viewed as a partner within the County. Having the primary responsibility of managing the development and execution of a comprehensive internal audit program, this position ensures the County's financial and operational integrity, accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness. The Internal Audit Director will ensure that the County maintains compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and regulations while assessing management’s system of internal controls to minimize the risk of fraud, waste, and abuse of County resources. The Internal Audit Director will work closely with County Management and staff to address and eliminate financial, technology, and accountability risks. The Internal Audit Director manages and controls the organization’s audit process, making the necessary changes to upgrade and improve the audit process, policies, and procedures, and manages both internal and external resources for adequate audit coverage.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field with course work equivalent to a major concentration in accounting and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in governmental auditing, accounting, or finance or a related field with 5-7 years of supervisory experience in governmental auditing or accounting. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation is required.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree.

Compensation and Benefits
The expected hiring range is $97,503.53 - $119,848.12, depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package including an 8% contribution to your 401(k). Learn more about our options and employee-based benefits here.
