Serving the Cities of Redwood City (pop. 83,077) and San Carlos (pop. 29,837) in the heart of the Silicon Valley, the Redwood City Fire Department is supported by more than 91 staff and a 2024-25 budget of $46.8 million. The department holds an ISO Class 1 rating and maintains the lowest response times among the three most active fire departments in San Mateo County.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who exhibits the passion and versatility needed to serve two vibrant urban Bay Area communities. This high energy and relatable leader will have a history of upholding high standards and be adept at engaging with a multi-generational workforce as well as a diverse community. In addition, the candidate selected will be capable of promoting an environment that values innovation and strives to design new service delivery models to meet evolving community needs. Competitive candidates will possess a minimum of four years of supervisory and administrative experience at the Battalion Chief level or above. A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred; master’s degree is desirable.

Current salary range $247,752 - $309,696 (under review); salary is supplemented by an attractive benefits package.
