Deputy Medical Director - Austin-Travis County EMS

The City of Austin is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a Deputy Medical Director position in the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, Office of the Chief Medical Officer. This role reports to the Chief Deputy Medical Director. The next Deputy Medical Director will have the opportunity to be part of the leading Emergency Medical Services agency in the nation with several exciting challenges to address and areas of opportunity to excel. Among these is the responsibility for the clinical oversight of Austin-Travis County EMS integrated service programs. This includes the Paramedic Practitioner Program, buprenorphine program, mental health paramedics, clinical navigator team, and Community Health Paramedic programs.

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Serves as a physician resource for the City of Austin/Travis County EMS System.
Provides direct medical control, field clinical care delivery, and development and implementation of patient-focused programs.
Responds to emergency calls as needed.
Performs clinical review of care provided identified by random review or specific inquiry or complaint.
Develops, reviews, validates, and implements clinical policies, procedures and operating guidelines.
Credentials system providers and assists in oversight of all system accreditation.
Develops and delivers educational programs for all specialty areas and organizations.
Participates in system-wide meetings.
Facilitates and mediates inter-organizational conflicts.
Participates in dialogue with partners in the medical community to explore innovative programs focused on patient care and alternative delivery of appropriate medical care.
Supports and participates in system-wide scientific research projects.
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other agencies and departments.
Skill in the application of supervisory and management practices.

Job Requirements
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educa
