City Administrator

The City Administrator is an appointed employee who is responsible for the broad day-to-day management of all aspects of City Government; the City employs department heads for each department, who are professional and capable in their respective roles. The Administrator is tasked with completing the overarching objectives of Mayor and Council and is expected to have a rapport with the elected officials based on frequent coordination, communication, and mutual respect.
The Administrator will work with the Mayor to set the business agenda of the Mayor and Council on a monthly basis. They will coordinate with the City Attorney to complete a variety of work on behalf of the City, as needed. The Administrator will be responsible for the City’s adherence to the Maryland Open Meetings Act and Public Information Act as well as all other applicable laws and regulations. The City Administrator is responsible for some human resource functions,including hiring, firing, and benefits and compensation for employees. The City Administrator should make themselves generally available to residents and business owners in the community.
The Administrator should be familiar with the various functions of local government and be able to navigate the political environment and collaborate with other government and economic development agencies. The Administrator will be expected to be committed to continued education and training.
