Known as the “Wheatheart of the Nation,” the City of Perryton in Texas’ Panhandle is home to approximately 8,500 residents who value its family-oriented atmosphere, strong sense of community, and rich agricultural heritage. The only incorporated city in Ochiltree County, Perryton serves as a vital trade hub for surrounding rural communities, offering a unique blend of self-sufficiency and small-town charm.
Perryton is a Type A General Law Texas City that adopted the council-manager form of government in 1951. The six-member City Council sets policy for the organization and appoints the City Manager, Municipal Judge, City Attorney, and Health Officer. Reporting directly to the Mayor and City Council, the City Manager acts as the organization’s chief executive officer, overseeing the daily operations of Perryton’s professional team.
The next City Manager will join a tight-knit community and stable organization — and should be prepared to hit the ground running. Their responsibilities include putting the City Council’s vision and policies into action, setting goals, standards, and protocols for the organization, crafting the annual budget, and providing support and advice to elected and appointed leaders. Perryton’s City Manager also partners with a five-member board to manage the executive director of the Perryton Community Development Corporation. The selected candidate will want to prioritize building relationships and getting to know residents, staff members, the business community, and other key stakeholders who will be vital to future success. Trust and transparency will need to be established early as Perryton adjusts to its third city manager since 1951.

The selected candidate must possess strong decision-making skills, confidently making informed choices that balance the community’s needs with the City’s overarching goals.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 10 years of progressive experience in city management and administration. Proven success in a community similar to or larger than Perryton would be especially valuable. Please note that the selected candidate must establish residency within six months.
Perryton is offering a salary range of $150,000 to $v for this position, depending on experience and qualifications.
