Matteson, IL (pop. 19,073). The Village of Matteson is seeking an energetic Director of Economic Development to join their team. More than a dozen shopping centers, plenty of office space, and mile-long commercial corridor buildings, as well as industrial areas, surround many of Matteson’s parks, walking trails, passive recreational areas, and the Cook County Forest Preserve that complement and enhance Matteson's economic development areas. The Market Square Crossing builds on the former site of Lincoln Mall, creating an impressive new mixed-use space.

This position reports directly to the Village Administrator and is appointed by the Mayor and Village Board.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, marketing, and organization of economic development programs.
• Develop and implement short and long-range economic development plans.
• Prepare studies, reports, and promotional materials for economic development activities.
• Coordinate initiatives with various commissions and agencies, including the Economic Development Commission and the Illinois Enterprise Association under the Will/Cook Enterprise Zone.
• Provide technical and professional recommendations for economic growth and marketing the Village’s brand.
• Monitor local, state, and federal legislation and regulations related to economic development.
• Conduct community tours and site visits for business attraction and retention.
• Prepare and manage the department’s operating budget ($550,000).
• Perform financial and economic impact analysis for development projects.
• Develop and maintain an inventory of available buildings and sites for economic development purposes.
• Serve as a liaison between local government and various organizations.
• Coordinate local economic development financing tools and incentive programs.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, business, public administration, economic development, or a related field.
• At least five (5) years of experience in economic or urban development (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation is a plus.
• Knowledge of business development, municipal zoning, and infrastructure.
• Experience with planning programs, financing programs, and incentive programs including extensive experience in Tax Increment Financing.
• Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one.
The starting salary range is $102,850 – $123,420 +/- DOQ.
