Tompkins County is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to serve as its Commissioner of Whole Health. This is an exciting opportunity to lead an integrated approach to public health and mental health services, ensuring the well-being of all residents through innovative and equitable programs.
About the Role
As the Commissioner of Whole Health, you will oversee the administration, strategic planning, and coordination of the County’s Public Health and Mental Health services. This role is responsible for developing policies, managing resources, and collaborating with community partners to address public health challenges, promote mental well-being, and reduce health disparities.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide leadership in developing and implementing public health and mental health initiatives.
• Direct and oversee public health programs, including disease prevention, health promotion, and environmental health.
• Manage mental health services, ensuring access to quality behavioral health programs.
• Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community organizations, to advance public health priorities.
• Oversee department budgets, grants, and resources to ensure financial sustainability.
• Develop and implement policies that address social determinants of health and promote health equity.
• Serve as a key advisor to County leadership on health-related issues.
Qualifications
• A master’s degree in public health, health administration, social work, psychology, or a related field.
• Extensive leadership experience in public health, mental health, or a related sector.
• Strong knowledge of public health principles, behavioral health services, and healthcare systems.
• Experience managing budgets, programs, and staff in a government or nonprofit setting.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• A commitment to equity, inclusion, and addressing health disparities.
