The Kodiak Island Borough Community Development Department is accepting applications for the full-time, non-exempt, union position of Associate Planner/Long Range Planning. As one of the department's two planners, this position is part of the Community Development Department team. The position responds to inquiries regarding zoning, subdivision and real property codes, adopted plans, and other technical planning information; provides technical guidance and assistance in the issuance of required permits and the submission of applications for land use actions; performs analyses and other associated Planning & Zoning Commission, Parks & Recreation Committee, and Local Emergency Planning Committee activities; and participates in the development and implementation of various plans/grants. The position also provides technical advice and recommendations to the Manager, Assembly, Borough Committees, and advisory boards.
Bachelor’s Degree in Planning and 3 years of community development planning experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Knowledge of principles and techniques of social, economic, and environmental impact analysis, subdivision review. Knowledge of state and local land use control and planning techniques; current state and federal legislation and programs affecting planning; and project management, including work program development and contract administration.
