Canton, MA (25,000 pop.), is seeking an innovative, proactive, community leader to serve as its next Town Administrator. Canton is a growing vibrant community, attracting citizens and businesses to the Town with its great schools, low property taxes, rich history, extensive open space and strong sense of community. Located just 15 miles south of Boston, Canton lies at the Foot of the Blue Hills Reservation, a 7,000-acre state park offering year-round outdoor recreational opportunities. With Canton’s excellent location close to Boston and Providence, it has a thriving business community and is national corporate and regional headquarters to such iconic businesses as Dunkin Donuts, Boston Mutual Life Insurance, Computershare and other Fortune 500 companies.
Canton is a full-service municipality, led by a five-member Select Board, with an open town meeting form of government. This community has excellent public services and enjoys a reputation as one of the Commonwealth’s top communities in which to live and work. The Town has a AAA bond rating. The Town Administrator oversees a FY 2027 operating budget of $133.7M (Town departments $71.5M, School Department $62.2M). The Town Administrator has the benefit of excellent Department heads and an Assistant Town Administrator. The Town has 350 full-time employees and 50 part-time employees, not counting School employees.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field; master’s in public administration or related field is preferred and seven (7) or more years of municipal government experience in progressively responsible management and administrative capacities. Equivalent experience in a complex public sector, nonprofit or corporate environment will be considered.
The Town is offering a salary up to $235,000 along with a competitive benefits package and an employment contract, commensurate with education and experience. Canton is an equal opportunity employer AA/EEO.
