The Township of North Huntingdon is currently recruiting for an experienced law enforcement leader with a proven record of accomplishments, integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to public safety to serve as its next police chief. This position performs a variety of complex administrative, supervisory and professional work in planning, coordinating, directing and managing the activities of the 29 member Police Department and Dispatch Center consisting of 6 fulltime and 2 part time telecommunications officers.
ABOUT NORTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP
A vibrant growing suburban community located in Westmoreland County approximately 20 miles and a 35 minute trip to Pittsburgh. Known for its quality of life, the township is home to roughly 32,800 people with over 14,000 homes covering over 27 square miles. Residents enjoy a blend of residential neighborhoods and thriving commercial areas. The township is a full service community with extensive park and recreation amenities. State Rt. 30 runs through the middle of the township with a PA Turnpike interchange located in the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY
• Provide professional executive leadership for departmental administration, budgeting, operations, supervision, personnel, training and public relations under the supervision of the Township Manager.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as collective bargaining agreements, regulations, MPOETC standards and departmental policies.
• Advise the Township Manager and provide periodic reports on public safety matters regarding the Department’s activities, and ensure the department’s operations align with established policies and goals of management and the Board.
• Meet with elected or appointed officials, other law enforcement officials, community and business representatives, and the public on all aspects of the Department’s activities and to maintain a positive working relationship with all parties.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Fifteen years of experience as a full-time sworn police officer, five years of which must have been in a substantial progressive supervisory and command role.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, political science, public administration or a closely related field. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Graduation from at least one police command training school such as the FBI Academy, POLEX (both Basic & Advanced) or POSIT, or a related supervisory command school.
• Demonstrated strong administrative, leadership, organizational, communication, and computer literacy skills.
• Strong commitment to community policing and innovation.
• Current MPOETC (Act 120) Certification.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License within 1 year of employment.
This is an FLSA exempt full-time management position with a Township fringe benefits package. Salary range of $124,611.00 to $168,591.00, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background check, physical examination, psychological examination and drug test once a conditional offer of employment is extended.
