Job Description

Conveniently located about 30 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and adjacent to the Texas-Oklahoma border, Denison is a thriving, growing community with a historic downtown and modern amenities. Covering 24 square miles, Denison features a unique natural environment ripe for outdoor recreation and a strong economy built on healthcare and manufacturing. Denison is ideally situated on Lake Texoma, an 89,000-acre lake on the Red River which boasts 600 miles of shoreline, secluded islands, and sandy beaches.

The City seeks an innovative, pragmatic, and people-focused Assistant City Manager with advanced management and leadership skills who will continue to help lead Team Denison forward. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who can set clear expectations consistent with the mission, vision, values, and leadership philosophy of the organization. Experienced leaders from a variety of local government fields with diverse backgrounds, perspective, and experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field. A master’s degree in public administration, planning, business administration, or a related field is preferred. The next Assistant City Manager must have at least 10 or more years of experience in local government with at least five years as a department director, assistant city manager, or city manager.

Relocation assistance and a temporary housing stipend are available for candidates outside the Texoma region. The Assistant City Manager is expected to become a resident of Denison.
