Job Description

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee (pop 65,000), a thriving urban community is seeking a Chief Building Official. The City is seeking a Chief Building Official with a thorough knowledge of current principles and methods of modern building design and construction, knowledge of the proper use and application of the International Construction Codes, the functions and operations of municipal governance, and the principles of budgeting and budget administration. This position reports to the Development Services Manager.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with emphasis in engineering or a construction related discipline. Extensive and verifiable experience working in a municipal setting, along with an ICC Certified Building Official designation is highly preferred.

The salary range for this position will be $57,000 to $88,0000, depends on qualifications. The City offers an attractive benefit package that includes health, life, long-term disability, and a 401a retirement plan. Voluntary benefit plans such as dental, specific disease, and short-term disability are also available.
