Job Description

Southbridge, MA (16,700 pop.), is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and strong leader to serve as its next Town Manager. Applicants should have excellent financial acumen as well as strong budgeting, economic development, project management, and communications skills. Southbridge is unique in that it is a relatively small town yet provides amenities and public services that are more akin to a city. The Town embraces its diversity and has a significant Latino population. Southbridge has an AA- rating and an FY20 budget of approximately $61.8 million. Southbridge has a Council-Manager form of government and is led by a nine-member Town Council. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred, in a field related to public or business administration. Prior experience as a city/town manager or assistant city/town manager is preferred. Candidates should have a proven record of leadership, be proactive and a strategic thinker, instill confidence, and be able to build collaborative relationships. Strong knowledge of municipal law and procurement is desired. Proficiency in budget preparation and capital planning, and an ability to manage multiple complex projects is required. Being bilingual in Spanish is a plus. The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package including health and retirement plans and an annual salary of $155K+/-, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
