Job Description

Located in West Central Florida and bordering on Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County is the 27th largest county in the nation and the fourth largest in the State of Florida. Home to more than 1.4 million people, Hillsborough is in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area, forming Florida’s second-largest metropolitan area. Within the County’s 1,072 square miles are three incorporated cities, the largest of which is Tampa, the county seat. A full-service county, Hillsborough has over 40 departments and agencies; and approximately 10,330 employees, 5,512 of which are under the County Administrator. The County’s FY20 operating budget is $6.65 billion, which includes a general fund of $1.52 billion and a capital budget of $967.5 million. The County has a seven-member Board of Commissioners, four (4) elected from single-member districts and three (3) elected at large, serving four (4) year staggered terms. The Board is seeking candidates for the position of County Administrator, who is the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the day-to-day operations of the County and for providing leadership to implement the goals, policies and procedures as directed by the County Commission. The Board is specifically interested in candidates who hold a minimum of a Master's Degree in public administration, management, or related field; and have a minimum of five (5) years of successful documented experience as a County Administrator, County Manager, Assistant County Administrator, Assistant County Manager, or comparable local government executive for entities with a similar sized year-round resident population. The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of and experience in improving and maintaining transportation and public infrastructure; increasing availability of affordable housing; financial-sustainable stormwater management; and improving the economic well-being and quality of residents’ lives through innovative, effective economic development.
