The Town of Leland has a full-time vacancy for the position of Public Safety Director. This position performs protective service and administrative work providing leadership and oversight to the Public Safety departments of Fire/Rescue and Police, managing the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, and priorities for police, fire, and emergency management, planning, organizing, and directing the overall services and activities of the department, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the Assistant Town Manager. This position is designated as essential during emergency or disaster situations. Departmental supervision is exercised over all personnel within departments.
Position requirements include a Bachelor's degree with coursework in criminal justice, public safety administration, fire science, or related field and extensive progressively responsible experience in public safety including supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina upon hire. Possession of Basic Law Enforcement Training certification and Basic Law Enforcement Training certification under North Carolina Training and Standards preferred. Possession of IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Community Risk Reduction or Fire & Life Safety, and Technical Rescuer certifications preferred. Possession of EMT-Basic Credential or ability to obtain reciprocity within six (6) months of hire. Paramedic credential preferred. Completion of NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 courses within one year of hire.
Salary range is $89,612.39-$143,379.82 annually. The hiring range for the position is $89,612.39 – $98,826.70 annually. Salary within hiring range will be determined based on relevant and verifiable work experience and qualifications.
