The City of Corpus Christi is the eighth largest city in Texas with a population of approximately 325,000. Corpus Christi in Latin means Body of Christ. The name was given to the settlement and surrounding bay by Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda in 1519, as he discovered the lush semi-tropical bay on the Catholic feast day of Corpus Christi. Job Overview: The Director of Solid Waste Services is responsible for the planning, directing, managing and oversight of the activities and operations of the Solid Waste Department including Solid Waste Collection, disposal operations, environmental sciences, Household Hazardous Waste, compliance and graffiti, and brush, bulk and sludge services. This position coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager’s Office.
The minimum job requirements are: Bachelor degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field, combined with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience. A TCEQ Class A Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Operator License required at time of hire; or equivalent license in another State with the ability to obtain State of Texas registration within 6 months of hire.
