builders helping each other

April is National County Government Month (NCGM), an annual celebration of county government, and since 1991 the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties to actively promote their services and programs. NCGM is an opportunity to highlight effective county programs and raise public awareness and understanding of the many services they provide, which helps residents and visitors better understand the difference in services between cities, towns, and counties, and also help staff better understand intergovernmental cooperation.

This year's theme is Counties RISE!, an acronym for resiliency, inclusion, solvency, and empowerment, and the exclamation point speaks to the enthusiasm and passion with which NACo tells those stories. ICMA members from cities, counties, and towns are encouraged to reflect on this theme as they decide how to celebrate or promote NCGM and support counties. NACo’s website includes ideas on how to promote counties, such as establishing a planning committee, creating outreach activities, and getting the local media involved.

Join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #NCGM.

ICMA members are encouraged to connect one of their stories with local media.
