Job Description

The City of Baytown is a fast-growing, exciting coastal community located just east of downtown Houston on Galveston Bay, which has a diverse population of about 82,000 residents and a rich cultural, economic, and environmental heritage. The City is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Affairs Director responsible for leading the City's Strategic Communications and Tourism Divisions, as well as establishing a strong legislative affairs presence to proactively advocate on behalf of the City. The position supervises five (5) full-time employees and is responsible for developing and managing city-wide communications; promoting the City to potential visitors and residents; and overseeing digital engagement and printed publications. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Policy, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university; a master's degree is preferred. Requirements also include ten (10) years of related experience in professional communications, marketing, public relations, organizational communication, public information, or communications management, and a valid driver's license. Experience in municipal government, coordinating successful public relations campaigns, and managing multiple staff is preferred. The salary range is $119,974-$155,958.
