Job Description

The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of a Director of Human Resources.

The City of Indianola (pop. 14,278) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, Bike Night, the Warren County Fair and other events.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:

 Assures fair and consistent treatment of all City employees and that all employees comply with the City policies and procedures.
 Review, revise, develop policies and procedures for the Human Resources department and ensures these rules and regulations are followed. Interprets components of personnel policies, responds to inquiries and recommends updates as needed.
 Coordinates all employee insurance and benefit programs for both City and IMU.
 Negotiate and administer union labor contracts.
 Manage policy and renewal for property, auto and liability insurance coverage.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or a closely related field; Master’s degree is preferred. Preferably five years experience in director level human resources management. Preferably SHRM-CP and or NPELRA CLRP certification. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Must be available for off work assignments, meetings and activities.

The position’s salary range is $69,353 – 93,082. The City offers an excellent benefits package. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check. Position will remain posted until filled.
