Job Description

The City of Puyallup seeks a dynamic leader to lead our team of 29 professional employees in providing planning, building and permitting services.

The successful candidate will direct the department’s involvement in the City’s Lean continuous improvement initiative, lead the department’s “One Puyallup” initiative relating to achieving permitting efficiencies and customer service initiatives; provide leadership for City-wide long-range and strategic planning activities in coordination with the City Manager; manage department operations, and prepare and ensures fiscal responsibility of the department budget.

The annual salary range for this position is $124,344 - $159,180, depending upon experience. The City of Puyallup provides a comprehensive and highly competitive health benefits package for employees and their families. Qualifications for this position are:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Design, Urban Planning or related field plus five years or more of increasingly responsible management or supervisory experience; or a combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position listed above.
• Preferred qualification is a Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban Design, Urban Planning, or related graduate or professional degree.
• Possession of or the ability to obtain, and maintain throughout employment, a valid Washington State driver's license.
