Assistant City Administrator

This exempt position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of special projects and providing supervision and leadership to the City. This position reports directly to the City Administrator.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Plans, coordinates and implements special projects for the City Administrator.
Plans, coordinates and administers grants for the City.
Serves as City Administrator in his/her absence.
Provides assistance and information to the City Administrator and City Council.
Assists with annual budget preparation.
Attends City Council meetings and workshops.
Attends weekly department meetings.
Provides assistance and guidance to department directors as directed by the City Administrator.
Acts as the City's representative on various intergovernmental committees.
Prepares, evaluates and makes recommendations for Requests for Proposals (RFP's) for various services required for special projects.
Supervises departments as assigned by the City Administrator.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
Four years of applicable work experience.
Any combination of education and experience totaling eight years may be considered.
Valid South Carolina Driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of Public Administration/Management.
Knowledge of budget formulation and implementation.
Knowledge of personnel management and supervision.
Knowledge of urban planning principles and practices.
Knowledge of the City's computer network.
Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to provide supervision to staff.
Ability to organize work and perform analytical functions.
The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: typing, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, and walking.
