Job Description


The City of Toronto's Fleet Services Division (FSD) provides a full range of fleet management services for City Divisions and Agencies. We direct the management of the City’s fleet including the acquisition, maintenance and disposal of assets; along with the City’s industry leading Green Fleet Plan and fuel management infrastructure. FSD, manages the City's commercial fleet safety and compliance and trains, tests and certifies over 11,000 employees who operate City vehicles and equipment. The City of Toronto has the largest municipal fleet in Canada and one of the most complex Fleets in North America.

Reporting to the General Manager, FSD, the Director Fleet Management is responsible for leading and managing fleet programs that support the overall operation of the Division. Using a strategic lens the Director will investigate, audit, analyze, devise and implement initiatives, technology solutions and plans to improve Fleet standards, business processes, policies and practices to modernize to current industry standards.

You have extensive experience developing and modernizing operational strategies, work plans and procedures with the ability to create efficient business processes, while driving and leading change. You are known for your track record managing large and complex, multi-stakeholder fleet operations and the ability to manage diverse needs of client divisions, agencies and stakeholders. You are a hands on leader experienced with implementing advanced fleet management practices such as: lowest total cost of ownership asset management and replacement, Reliability Centred Maintenance, Value-Based Procurement, Category Management, Contract Development and Management, Balanced Scorecards, fleet safety and accountability based organization models founded on establishing and monitoring performance against KPI's and industry standards.

You possess technical and business expertise in fleet management and the intellectual creativity to look beyond traditional solutions. Your continuous improvement focus and innovative nature generate alternative approaches to complex fleet issues. Your strong leadership skills are vital in setting key indicators to measure and drive business outcomes while building high performing teams.

You have a style that is progressive and contemporary, a spirit of enterprise and innovation and you are comfortable working and collaborating across the organization to build relationships with key business / customer partners. You are well known for your high ethical standards and you inspire a shared vision and drive for results in a climate of accountability. Work closely with the Division management team and other key Business partners across the City to build a modern and best practice fleet management group.
