This week I want to bring to light one of the most insightful blogs on the Knowledge Network, Write About Now.  It started in July 2013 with a simple mission: to cover the topics that are important and interesting for local government professionals, or as the contributors state, “We’ll aim to tap into the things you care about.”  Write About Now calls attention to ICMA publications to accomplish this mission. Here are some posts we encourage you to check out:

  1. At the beginning of each month the blog summarizes what’s inside the current month’s PM magazine.  This post covers September PM’s cover story, “Strengthening the Library’s Strategic Role” (by Rashad Young, city administrator, Washington, D.C., and Susan Benton, director, Urban Libraries Council, Washington, D.C.).
  2. Earlier this year PM’s “Women Leading Government: Why So Little Progress in 30 Years?” led to an important discussion about the role of women in local government administration, and this post summarizes those conversations.
  3. One of the best pieces of professional advice I’ve received was from the post Stop Living Your Life 30 Minutes Ahead.  This post also showcases an abundance of professional advice in the July issue of PM.

If you want to get a quick snapshot of other great ICMA blogs, check out these posts on the Sustainable Communities and Performance Management blogs.
