This article highlights two approaches to implementing real-time emergency notification systems: Arlington County and the town of Blacksburg, Virginia. Discusses how these jurisdictions were two of the first local governments in the state to install such systems that send free, coordinated text messaging to citizens via an assortment of communication devices.
