This article discusses the necessity of reaching all citizens of a community, should an urgent event such as a natural disaster or a chemical spill occur. Several case studies and charts highlight and compare various notification methods such as television, radio, computer-generated announcements, civil defense sirens, police loud speakers, and door-to-door contacts. The author concludes that targeted telephone notification (TTN) is the best method of warning.
