Modern technology gives us the opportunity to collect and analyze a stunning amount of data. As one looks for the possible applications to government operations, it’s easy to see that one of the highest potential uses of that power would be to reinvent the public budgeting process. This two-part work focuses heavily, but not exclusively, on use of technology to enhance the analytical capabilities, performance measure, and transparency of the budget process. It’s intended to open a dialogue about the importance of reforming the public budgeting process to keep pace with changing public expectations for cost-efficient, effective, and open government.
