Most taxpayers believed over 50 percent of a property tax bill in Overland Park is comprised of assessments levied by the city. Factually, Overland Park’s total assessment on any property tax bill is under 10 percent. Other taxing jurisdictions include local school districts, county government, state operations, and a local community college. Therefore, the City sought a way to enlighten tax payers by providing information on what an individual or business currently pays to the city, and other taxing jurisdictions, how the money is allocated by the city, and then providing calculated increases based on two proposed mill levy rates and the impact of each.
