This May 2010 report provides workforce information for more than 2000 local health departments in the form of web-based surveys. Answers to this survey provide an array of information on staff recruitment, training, hiring freezes, retirements and ethic makeup of U.S. local health departments. In the conclusion of the report, the authors use the information gleaned from these surveys to suggest future research questions on the size, composition and role of local health departments in public policy.
