This is the 2010 nomination of Sedgwick County, Kansas' Succession Planning program for the Strategic Leadership and Governance Award. County Manager William Buchanan has been credited with developing the Succession Planning program in order to address the oncoming influx of retirements of many individuals in upper level administration jobs in the County. This program not only identifies the individuals likely to retire soon, but describes key skills required of each job in order to find sufficient replacements.
