This is the 2010 nomination of Mountain View, California's Library/Police Department Partnership program for the Community Partnership Award. City Manager Kevin C. Duggan is credited with aiding in the development of a Police Assistant Staff in response to an increased amount of crime at the local library. With new technology, such as free Wi-Fi, the library was being used by an increased number of people that rendered the previous security measures ineffective. Since the implementation of this program, these officers have greatly improved customer service by handling nearly 10,000 incidents, saving library staff between three and four hours a week. Additionally, these officers seek to improve community relations by engaging in activities such as weekly readings to children.
