This Monthly Rundown is a collection of #LocalGov highlights from the month of June. Consider it a friendly reminder of the content you might need to catch up on from ICMA.

Public Management (PM) magazine - Make Way for Smart Communities. We live in an information age. Technological innovation in the form of computers, telecommunications, and data is and will continue to change the way local government managers deliver efficient services to residents. The smart communities movement supports local governments as they consider, adopt, and use new technology to improve how the business of towns, cities, districts, and counties is performed.

Coaching Webinar - Creating a Culture for Cultivating Talent and Getting Results. If you are interested in how you can retool your organizational culture and design your workplace for better results, catch up on this free coaching webinar that occurred on June 20. Presenters included Karen Niparko, Charlie Bush, and Nat Rojanasathira.

Ask an ICMA Manager -  What Is the Difference Between Managing in Large and Small Communities? Ask an ICMA Manager is a monthly blog series where ICMA asks a current or former local government manager or local government professional to answer a question on a management issue facing local government.

Podcast - Carl Valente. For four decades, Carl Valente has served local and state governments throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, while also serving five years as financial management director of ICMA. For the past 13 years, Valente has served as the town manager of Lexington, Massachusetts, a town that is celebrated as the site of the first shots of the American Revolutionary War in the Battle of Lexington in 1775. Valente notes in the podcast that this moment in history has an impact on the community to this very day.

Member Spotlight - Carrie Jones, MPA"Don't worry about being the only woman in the room… I finally learned that it just doesn't matter. If people care what you have to say, they don't care if you're a woman or a man. Just don't let it bother you; don't let it get to you. Keep your confidence. Somebody's listening to what you have to say. It might not seem like it, but usually somebody's listening." Director of Strategic Services in Denison, Texas, Carrie Jones shares how she grew up around local government and how her ICMA membership has helped her in her profession.
