Tuesday was the last day of Emergency Preparedness Month but that doesn’t mean the work ends. Being ready to protect our neighbors and families at any time is one of the most important responsibilities for local governments. The Knowledge Network is here for you with resources designed to help local governments implement best practices in emergency management and preparedness.
- Tuesday, a grassroots campaign called America’s PrepareAthon! is hosting the National PrepareAthon! Day and their theme is “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare.” This article will give you a few steps to get you started thinking about being more emergency conscious.
- This blog from the ICMA Center for Public Safety Management shares the details about the National Disaster Resilience Competition, which makes $1 billion available to communities that are recovering from natural disasters. Read more about it here.
- Not all emergencies are huge natural disasters. Neglecting employee safety could mean disaster for organizations. Goodyear, Arizona, is taking huge steps in creating and implementing an “auditable and sustainable Employee Safety Program.” Get those details here.
- You can also check out these Knowledge Network topic pages for even more news and resources:
Every plan can be improved and no plan is ever perfect. If you have resources that will help your fellow local government professionals better prepare for emergencies, share them with us on the Knowledge Network.
