Located in “Historic Gold Country”, the City of Jackson, California is seeking its next City Manager! The City Manager will partner with City Council to implement city policies while employing creative administrative strategies to meet the modern needs of a community with many unique gifts and challenges. Jackson, while being a full-service community, is located thirty-seven (37) miles from Folsom and forty-nine (49) miles from Sacramento, California. The City Manager will be an experienced public administrator, well-grounded in supporting public infrastructure development, fiscal stability, staff development, and have previous success with securing grants. This leader will oversee the City's annual budget of approximately $14.5 million while supervising thirty-two (32) full-time employees, with 6 direct reports. Additionally, the City Manager will have a strong work ethic, a passion for public service and a desire to build upon the strengths of previous long-term city managers.
This important leadership position provides the opportunity to work collaboratively and creatively to find solutions to improve the City’s infrastructure, including roads and streets, parks, and city facilities, and will require someone who is comfortable and competent in that role. Revitalization of Jackson’s historic district is a current topic of concern the new city manager will also be expected to help implement. The City is eager to find a strong city manager who is prepared to focus on core city responsibilities by engaging with a united team of council members and department heads to get things done. The successful candidate will create and support an organizational culture that fosters professionalism, authenticity, creative thinking, and an enjoyable work environment.

Preferred qualifications for applicants include a master’s degree in public administration and at least five years of city management experience, either as a city manager, an assistant city manager or as a department head with significant operational and supervisory experience. Any combination of skills and experience that would be equivalent to the above may be considered.
