The County of Aroostook, Maine, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to serve as County Administrator. As the chief administrative officer of Aroostook County, you will be responsible for implementing policies set by the County Commissioners, overseeing the day-to-day operations of county government, and providing leadership in long-term planning and fiscal management.

The County of Aroostook’s government, led by a three-member Board of Commissioners, provides services for 55 municipalities and 112 unorganized territories in the northern part of the state. Offices are located in Caribou, Fort Kent, and the county seat, Houlton.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct and coordinate the administration of all county operations and services.
• Advise and support the Board of County Commissioners in developing and implementing policy.
• Prepare and administer the annual county and unorganized territory budgets; oversee fiscal planning, reporting, and accountability.
• Supervise and evaluate department heads, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of public services.
• Oversee labor relations, personnel policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Manage county facilities, capital projects, and contracts.
• Represent the County in intergovernmental relations, professional associations, and community engagement as well as regional and statewide initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, political science, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in public administration, preferably at the municipal or county level.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong financial management and budgeting expertise.
• Experience in personnel management and labor relations.
• Knowledge of Maine municipal/county government is highly desirable.
