
Assistant Town Manager

The Town of Hilton Head Island, a premiere destination known for it's 12 miles of pristine beaches, championship golf, and vibrant cultural heritage, is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Assistant Town Manager to help lead municipal operations and guide the implementation of the Town Council’s Strategic Action Plan. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, this position provides executive oversight of key functions including Engineering and Projects, Planning, Facilities, Technology and Innovation, and Customer Service.
The Assistant Town Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that services are delivered efficiently, major capital projects are executed effectively, and strategic initiatives are translated into visible results for the community.
The Role:
• Provide executive leadership and direction to assigned departments.
• Oversee planning, permitting, and land development review processes.
• Manage capital improvement projects, transportation and mobility initiatives, stormwater systems, and beach operations.
• Guide facilities management, parks, and public grounds maintenance.
• Lead technology and digital transformation efforts to improve transparency and service delivery.
• Represent the Town in meetings and community forums as assigned by the Town Manager.
• Support strategic budgeting, fiscal accountability, and alignment of resources with priorities.
• Assist in emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Ten years of progressively responsible experience, including at least five years in a senior management role in government or the public sector.
• Expertise in municipal operations, capital project management, planning, engineering, facilities, and technology.
• Strong financial management skills with experience in budgeting and resource allocation.
• Excellent written, oral, and public communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead staff, build consensus, and deliver results in a complex organization.
