
Assistant City Attorney

The City of Williamsburg's City Attorney's Office is seeking a qualified professional to fill the position of Assistant City Attorney. The Assistant City Attorney is responsible for providing professional legal advice and services to City departments, staff, boards and commissions on complex matters, and independently handle litigation in the City’s General District, Circuit, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, as well as, the state courts of Virginia. Additionally, this position is responsible for contract negotiation and drafting, drafting ordinances, regulations, policies and legal memorandum. Position is required to staff meetings of the City’s Planning Commission and/or meetings of other boards or commissions, as necessary. Work is completed under the general supervision of the City Attorney.
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate from accredited law school; and
Licensed to practice law within the Commonwealth of Virginia
Special Qualifications:
Valid Virginia driver’s license
Acceptable criminal background, DMV check and drug screen results
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three (3) to five (5) years of prior experience as a practicing attorney within a local government setting
