Located along the beautiful Atlantic Coast in southeast Florida, St. Lucie County (est. pop. 385,746) is known as the Jewel of the Treasure Coast. St. Lucie County has a Commission/Administrator form of government, with a Board of County Commissioners consisting of five members, all of whom are elected at large. The Board appoints the County Administrator and the County Attorney, who serves as the legal advisor to the Board, County Administration, and various boards and committees created by the Board, and other county officials, including constitutional officers, upon request. There are five constitutional officers, including the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the Property Appraiser, the Sheriff, the Supervisor of Elections, and the Tax Collector.

The County has over 20 Departments, including some that provide unique services such as the Airport (general aviation), Port Inlet & Beaches, and Tourism & Venues. The County has 924 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees and a recommended FY2026 Total Budget of $883 million, which includes a General Fund of $274 million and a Capital Fund of $161 million. The County Attorney’s Office has a total of 38 staff members, comprised of 10 in Legal and 28 in the Criminal Justice Division, which reports to the County Attorney.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited college of law; and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible legal experience, with five (5) years in government law and civil practice. A minimum of five (5) years supervising attorneys is required. Preferred candidates will have legal experience in growth management, land use, or exposure to land use law, as well as expertise in environmental, contractual, employment, historic preservation, public utilities law, and experience working for a fast-growth community.

The starting salary is negotiable, depending on qualifications, and is accompanied by a competitive benefits package.
