About This Role:
In this career opportunity role, you will lead a staff of over eighty (80+), well trained, passionate individuals committed to connecting with youth where they are and moving them forward to a successful future. We seek a candidate with a shared passion and commitment, who is approachable, and ready to dive in and engage staff at all levels and collaborate with them to bring fresh ideas, energy and creativity to this challenging and meaningful work.
As the Director, you will oversee 24/7, year-round operations and services for court involved youth - pre-trial and residential programs in accordance with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice’s policies; as well as provide overall the executive administration of the Office of Youth Services.
We operate 3 facilities:
• Juvenile Pre-trial Supervision Program - serves as an alternative to secure detention pending court adjudication for juveniles between the ages of 10-17.
• Patrick D. Molinari Juvenile Shelter - a non-secure 15 bed, temporary emergency facility that serves both male and female juveniles between the ages of 10-17.
• Juvenile Detention Center - provides a safe, secure, and supportive environment for court-involved youth ages of 10-17 who are criminally charged pending court adjudication, waiting for transfer to another facility or an appropriate placement.
We seek a director who will expand our prevention and diversion services for youth before they become court involved and after they exit the system, equipping them through services and support to make better life choices.
The Director’s role presents an exciting opportunity to build a solid foundation for this new department. The ideal candidate will bring a sense of humor, essential for navigating the challenges. They will demonstrate a thoughtful ability to inject humor at the right moments, fostering a positive and engaging environment.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 8 years of professional work experience with youth, delinquent youth, court-involved youth and juvenile justice.
Preferences:
The preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree in in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, or similar area; ten (10) years of experience in juvenile justice; experience overseeing 24/7 facilities in which youth are court ordered; experience in secure, non-secure, and community-based services for youth who are court-ordered; and leadership experience starting with in-field work and progressively moving toward more responsibility.
The ideal candidate will also have supervisory experience leading a community coalition of local stakeholders interested in advancing services for youth before they become court involved. Experience working with grants to improve opportunities for youth, and budget experience, developing and stewarding a budget of at least $10 million, with federal, state and local revenue sources.
