Assistant City Manager

The City of Sterling Heights seeks to add an Assistant City Manager to its leadership team. The successful candidate will be appointed and will serve at the pleasure of the City Manager. The City Council is required to confirm the City Manager’s appointment of the new Assistant City Manager.
The Assistant City Manager is expected to excel in the culture of excellence that has been the hallmark of the City. This is a position where innovation and problem-solving are daily requirements for successful outcomes. The Assistant City Manager must embrace teamwork and be a willing contributor in response to the myriad of issues presented to City Administration and project assignments from the City Manager.
The Assistant City Manager is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments. In furtherance of these duties, the Assistant City Manager should have competency and understanding of all facets of public safety and public works operations. The Assistant City Manager will need to develop an excellent working relationship with the leadership of these departments and ensure that their key initiatives are being implemented. In addition, the Assistant City Manager will be the driving force for implementing the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
Compensation and Benefits:
The annual base salary range is $160,0000 to $170,000. Additional benefits include a City provided vehicle or a vehicle allowance, 401(a) retirement plan with city (10.5 percent of base) and employee (5.0 percent of base) annual contributions, retirement health savings (RHS) plan annual contribution of $3,500, paid time off (PTO), twelve paid holidays, performance based pay (6.67 percent of base), health and life insurance, and advanced degree allowance of $2,500.
