Development Services Director
Town of Prescott Valley, AZ
Under general direction of the Town Manager, the Development Services Director oversees multiple divisions and is responsible for supervising managers, supervisors, and individual contributors. Develops performance standards, provides coaching, and formally evaluates, rewards, and recognizes the work of employees and volunteers. Assists staff to achieve performance standards, identifies and provides training and development opportunities for continual improvement. Addresses and resolves performance deficiencies.
Develops and implements long-term strategies and goals for the efficient and sustainable growth of Prescott Valley in collaboration with key stakeholders, such as town officials, community members, and developers.
Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive regulations, zoning ordinances, and building codes to ensure compliance, safety, and aesthetic integrity in all construction projects. Ensures that development projects are executed to the highest standards, aligning with our town’s values and goals.
Leads planning and zoning efforts, including comprehensive land use planning, annexation processes, and zoning changes, to promote responsible and balanced growth.
Manages the permit issuance and inspection processes, ensuring timely and accurate reviews of plans and compliance with all relevant codes and regulations. Develops customer friendly on-line permitting and licensing capabilities.
Provides effective leadership and management to the Development Services Department, fostering a collaborative and high performing team environment, promoting professional growth and excellent customer service.
• Master’s degree in Planning, Urban Development, Public Administration, or closely related field. Must have 10 years of professional experience in planning/zoning or other community development services, including at least five years in a senior management role. Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must have strong knowledge of land use planning principles, development regulations, zoning ordinanc-es, and building codes.
• Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to inspire and motivate a team, foster collaboration, and drive results.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to think strategi-cally.
• Experience in budget development and management.
• Familiarity with GIS and other relevant software applications.
• A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
• Relocation to Prescott Valley or nearby area preferred.
