DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

The ideal candidate for the Director of Administration will have the experience to lead the financial and administrative functions of a diverse and complex City. The role is a key member of the mayor’s cabinet and must ensure that Stamford’s taxpayers benefit from sound and prudent financial and administrative management. This requires strong technical skills, but also a thorough knowledge of municipal financial systems, policies/practices, and internal controls.
This role provides executive leadership to all of the operating divisions within the Office of Administration and oversees multiple departments including Controller, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Grants, Office of Policy and Management, Payroll, Property Assessment, Purchasing, Risk Assessment, and Tax and Revenue Services.
This role requires a leader who has strong collaboration and people skills; and who will act in total compliance with policies and ethical standards. Expertise in municipal finance and budgeting is preferred.
Mayor Simmons’ team is working on an agenda that is responsive to the public and reflects what is special about Stamford. The ideal candidate should be ready to drive and support a vision that brings Stamford into the future.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to work within large, complex private organizations and/or State, Local or Federal Government. The ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders (including department heads, elected and appointed officials, other governmental agencies, business, and community organizations, the public and the media), often with competing interests is key.
The candidate must be able to effectively communicate with multiple audiences, both in writing and orally. Demonstrated public presentation skills to large audiences, that can clearly and succinctly distill complex and difficult messages, is critically important. Municipal experience preferred.
