Over the last few years, many communities have struggled with increases – or the perception of increases – in violent crime. To address these concerns, the Department of Justice developed a Violent Crime Reduction Roadmap. This guidance, however, leaves communities in a gray area when it comes to managing violent crime that arises from residents with mental health issues. And therein lies the question: how do you work to reduce violent crime without violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?
