Olathe was interested in going beyond the required training, and integrated the ideas and systems of NIMS with the city's snow removal process. NIMS-savvy officers of the city's Fire Department acted as mentors for snow removal staff.
As a result, snow removal has become a faster, more efficient process for the city. Plow drivers are more coordinated and residents give fewer complaints in the timeliness of snow removal. Lasting partnerships have also formed between the two departments.
