Despite high ratings from the federal government and judges and advocates, the city of Schaumburg, IL decided that more needed to be done for domesticate violence victims.  There were problems with aiding victims with repeat reports.  Many immigrants were not familiar with US and local law regarding domestic abuse.  There was also a need to stay current on national domestic abuse law and best practices.

To meet these needs, a police task force was formed and specially trained.  They monitored the number of repeat reports from residences, created domestic violence brochures in multiple languages, and were trained in domestic violence best practices.  The team responded to domestic violence reports and then followed up several days later.  By monitoring multiple-report residences the team was able to lower the number of domestic violence calls, and cooperation amongst divisions led to greater victim advocacy and community partnerships.

This case study was nominated for ICMA's Annual Awards Program.
