In 2001, King County announced that it would no longer provide jai services for its cities and gave them 10 years to find other jails. In 2006, a long-term needs study found that by 2026, those cities would need 1,450 jail beds, including 700 in South King County.
SCORE Jail received the 2013 ICMA Program Excellence Award in the area of Community Partnership for populations 50,000 and over, as part of the ICMA Annual Awards Program.
