In October 2007, California wildfires wreaked havoc that led to the evacuation of nearly half a million people. The wildfires impacted seven counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. In this article, the author discusses how these counties have taken proactive steps to plan for safety in fire-prone areas.
